Day 11 - July 8 - Field to Banff 82km

Kicking Horse Pass is how I start my day. I leave camp at 7:40 and 8km later I reach the summit. It really isn't as hard as I expected. Two weeks ago I would have struggled with that hill. I meet Aggie en route and we cross the "Welcome to Alberta" sign - glowing with pride.

We stay on the very flat Highway 1 and we slow down when we see cars pulled over at the side of the road. There's a huge grizzly bear on the hill looking down at us as we snap photos. My picture didn't turn out too well because I don't have zoom, but what a sight!

Eventually we get to Lake Louise and see Al looking very relaxed outside the coffee shop with a cinnamon bun in hand. Aggie and I join him for a break and the three of us stick together (no pun intended) for the remainder of the day. The Bow Valley Parkway is definitely worth seeing for anyone who wants a break from Highway 1. It's a series of rolling hills for 50 km and has great lookouts to Castle Mountain and the Bow River.

Banff is a fun place to be. We stop at a Cybercafe on our way to the campground and hit The Fudgery on our way out. Dave (from Ireland) is the only person there. Mat hasn't arrived with the truck yet so we sit around for an hour in the shade.

Supper is macaroni and cheese - one of my favourites. Tonight I'm taking a shuttle bus down into Banff with Aggie, John and Michelle. It's fun to be out of BC and done with the mountains.
