Day 16 - July 13 - Youngstown to Kindersley  161km

A 5:30am departure means we're the first out of camp. Unfortunately the wind is coming from the east again. This means I'll be pushing hard all day and I'll need to increase my food and water consumption to make up for it.

Dave, Al and I stop in Cereal for breakfast (no, I had eggs). Then we fight the wind a little more until we stop in Oyen for another break. Frequent breaks make a long day like this a lot easier. I try not to think of it as 161km; I prefer breaking it into 20km stages.

While on Route 9 before the Saskatchewan border, a transport truck (a semi to Americans) whips by in the other direction and I get hit in the collarbone by a rock, half the size of a golf ball. I let out a short "Ow!" and I almost lose control of the bike. Had it been a little higher it could have knocked out my teeth. I'm glad it was such a small rock.

I am very tired today; it's been another long one. Each day is exciting in its own way, and some of them are more strenuous than others. When I get to the campground I collapse once more, fatigued beyond belief. Everyone else is equally spent and worried about the prospect of another headwind just like this tomorrow.
