Day 2 - June 29 - Mission to Hope 90km

Breakfast today is a wholesome serving of oatmeal topped with not-so-wholesome brown sugar. I had filled my water bottles and pumped up my tires the night before, so it's simply a matter of packing away the tent (wet from the dew) and cleaning my breakfast dishes before heading out. Jen and I are the first riders to leave at 7:35am. We keep a similar pace on the road and we both like to stop and take pictures along the way.

We stay on Highway 7 all day. It's a mostly flat, two lane stretch of road with a lot of logging trucks and campers. The views are spectacular and we have yet to hit the mountains.

The sunny weather continues until we get to the campsite in Hope. Jen & I go to the Japanese takeout across the road for some extra nourishment. I had already eaten two PBJ sandwiches and two bananas that morning but I was still hungry. I'm not used to eating in such large quantities. Apparently the Tour has gone through 100 loaves of bread a week in previous years.

Tomorrow's ride is supposed to be quite challenging - it's our first taste of the Rockies. I should try to leave early to get back in time to make dinner for 25. I hope my galley crew has more advanced culinary skills than I or we'll all be eating leftover rice.
