Day 31 - July 28 - Rest Day in Thunder Bay

The first thing I do is take a long, hot shower. I don't know of any better method to start a bikeless day than feeling clean. My standards of cleanliness have lowered significantly since Vancouver. I no longer fret over a brown banana or a smelly water bottle. I'll eat just about anything if it gives me the calories I crave.

A bus ride downtown brings us to a pizza place, then to a store called Take a Hike where Al looks for new tent poles. I highly recommend a bike shop called Fresh Air Experience. It has everything a cyclist could ever want. I buy another four tubes for any future tire trouble, Al finds his tent poles and Dave gets a good price on a red and white helmet with a Canadian theme. A very worthwhile trip. When we ask directions to Wal-Mart, the manager at Fresh Air Experience offers to drive us there in his van. A late afternoon snack comes in the form of a McDonalds milkshake.

As for the evening, I plan to order a pizza and watch the Tour de France coverage at 9:00. Al joins me because we both want to see how Lance is doing and we haven't watched TV or even sat on a couch in a long while. But alas, it isn't to be. At 8:45 a campus security guard wanders in and explains that there has been a bomb scare issued to all residences. We must evacuate by 9:00.

They don't let us back in until 11:30, by which time I am very sleepy as I am normally fast asleep by 9:30. I suppose I'll have to leave a little later tomorrow.
