Day 32 - July 29 - Thunder Bay to Nipigon 114km

By the time we get everything packed up and on the road, it's already 8:30. No problem, it's a short day. Our first stop is the Terry Fox Memorial which overlooks Lake Superior. This stretch of road is called the Terry Fox Courage Highway as a reminder of how the strength of one person can have such a profound impact on the lives of so many. Hopefully his story will live on for generations.

Since today is our 32nd day of cycling and 33rd day since orientation, it marks the half-way point of the 66-day ride. In keeping with the Tour tradition, Mat makes us lunch in Pearl, just 60km from the start. We chow down on ham, cheese, lettuce and tomato sandwiches with ice cream for dessert. That's a welcome change from peanut butter. It's a picnic, and I'm loving it. What a break in the day. I wish we could do this more often.

The last 54km are great fun. The wind turns around and it comes from the west all afternoon. We keep a fast pace all the way to camp. What a wonderful day. Everyone is in high spirits at camp as we devour heaping helpings of pasta for dinner. I make my sandwiches and go to bed (rather, go to tent) by 9:00. Lights out. I have to get some sleep.
