Day 41 - August 7 - Manitowaning to Tobermory 42km

Today is like a rest day since we're only going from the campground to the ferry terminal. We get breakfast as we wait for the 9:30 departure. It takes just under two hours to reach Tobermory. Some of us use the ferry time as nap time, simply because we enjoy a good snooze after biking any distance, no matter how small.

Tobermory is very much a tourist town. Everything is overpriced and there are people wandering about taking pictures. I am one of them of course, but for some reason I don't feel as much like a tourist because it's just a matter of hours until I'm on the move again. I don't normally have the time to do typical tourist things. But then, the average person would find nothing typical about what we're doing this summer.

The last 6km to camp are flat with a tailwind. I have been spending much more time in the big chainring lately. This is certainly one of those times. The weather is hot and humid again, so there's a race to the shady spots in the campground. People tend to pitch their tents in the same spot each night. Our area is nicknamed the ghetto because we're the early risers. Al, Dave and myself are the permanent residents. Glenn joins us on occasion. Then there's the high rent district with Chris, Mat, Craig and Katharine. They are the late risers. Everyone else is somewhere in the middle. Regardless of the divisions, we all wake up to the sound of tent zippers every morning. It will be an adjustment to sleep in silence when I get home.
