Day 44 - August 10 - Rest Day in Toronto

John is very nice about driving us around the city today. It saves us a lot in cab fare. We go up the CN Tower for a breathtaking view of the city. Toronto is huge; I wouldn't want to live there for that reason. There is so much traffic that it takes hours to do a few simple errands. You end up wasting half your day in the car. Still, there is a lot to do there if you're willing to pay for it.

We go to Wayne Gretzky's Restaurant for lunch, and we also go to MEC so I can pick up another bike bag. Hopefully this one is squirrel-proof. Then John drops us at the mall so I can get a haircut while Al finds an email terminal. As productive days go, this one's up there.

One of the TDC riders from last year shows up at the campsite to see how we're doing. Barry is from Ottawa and he will cycle with us for the next three days on his way back home. He sure knows how to win us over. He brings pie and ice cream and he explains a better way to get out of Toronto than what's on the map. Barry is certainly a welcome addition to the group.

I am going to sleep early tonight. I have learned the hard way that waking up tired can have serious repercussions during the ride. Feeling well-rested is the best preparation I can get for these long days ahead.
