Day 5 - July 2 - Merritt to Pritchard  149km

I sleep in until 6:20 this morning; normally I'm up with the sun. Chocolate chip pancakes make for a delightful start to the day. I leave camp at 7:45 with Leslie, Deb, Murray and Karen.

It's very flat with just a few minor hills. We spin along at a good pace for 90km, although you'll notice in today's picture that there are some 40km stretches where there's a crack in the road every 20 feet. It makes for a rough ride; it's also hard on my bike.

Kamloops is about 100km from Merritt so we grab a burger at Wendy's. By this time I'm biking with Leslie, Deb and James. Then we decide to meet back at Wendy's 15 minutes later because I want to buy some sunglasses and Leslie wants to go to some other store. I find some glasses similar to the ones I lost in the river the other day. No more squinting - who could ask for more.

From Kamloops we follow the four-lane highway all the way to Pritchard. It's still really hot here and I notice an even darker tan on my arms and legs. An authentic biker's tan. Complete with white hands (from my gloves) and white shoulders (from my jersey).

Today was a memorable one. A long, long ride but I had so much fun!

I can hear the train going by as I type - just like home.
