Day 50 - August 16 - Hudson to Mont St-Hilaire  124km

I'm planning to take it easy today. My legs are a little sore from yesterday's ride. A breakfast stop in Hudson is my kind of start to the day. And a lot of today involves navigating through Montreal on the bike paths. The houses along the water are amazing with unique structural designs and castle-like features. What I like best are the designated bike lanes on the road and the respect we get from drivers.

We get lost several times following the bike paths because we're never sure if we're on the right side of the canal. After asking several locals for directions we finally decipher the puzzle. The most direct route into camp is Highway 116 the whole way. So eventually we get onto it and there is heavy traffic with no shoulder. It's insane - there's no way we can bike on that without getting ourselves killed. We turn around to cycle a few hundred yards back to where we got on. I am watching the traffic so carefully that I forget to watch the road carefully. I catch the edge of the curb and go down on my right side. It's been such a hard day already...might as well add a little road rash to the list.

To top off this tiresome day, I get a flat 40km from camp after I hit a piece of metal on the road. Sometimes I don't see those hazards until it's too late. I'm relieved to finally get into camp. All I want to do is sleep.
