Day 53 - August 19 - Rest Day in Quebec City

I'm up at 6:00 today. I know I don't have to be, but it's become a habit. I head to the meal hall at 7:30 for a rationed breakfast (certainly not the all-you-can-eat style) and return to my room to gather up my laundry. Finding quarters is always a pain, but it's a chore that needs to be done. Laundry is a lot like galley duty. I don't look forward to it because it takes time, but it's nice to get it done for another week.

As for the rest of the day, I take the bus to Vieux Quebec with Glenn and Rupica. The plan is to find a church where we can attend the 12:00 service. First we go to Notre Dame to see what their schedule looks like. The next service is at 5 that afternoon so we ask about other churches in the walkable area. No such luck. It'll have to wait for another day.

It doesn't take long to pick a restaurant when you're hungry. We have a long lunch with good food and good conversation. Dave and Al drop in by coincidence having just returned from a Presbyterian church service at 11:00.

Street jugglers attract tourists like short sleeves attract mosquitos. These people are really good at what they do. They can put on quite a show. As we walk to the bus stop we pick up a bottle of red wine for later. After all, when in Quebec...

Laval has a nice campus. It's well landscaped with trees and shrubs galore. The chipmunks seem to like it too. The A&W is 15 minutes on foot so I go there for a late dinner. I am keeping with my decision to avoid burgers for as long as possible. A chicken sandwich is a great alternative.

It's been a good day. Very restful indeed. Tomorrow we start our last stretch before New Brunswick. That's only six days away. I can't say I'm not looking forward to that. It'll be nice to be back in my home province.

"Well, I'm going to have my protein drink and go to bed", says Glenn. That's too funny. Speaking of which, I should go to bed too. Imagine that - a bed!
