Day 55 - August 21 - Riviere Ouelle to Trois Pistoles 121km

It is unusually cold when we start out at 8:30 with a light morning drizzle to keep me shivering. My shoes fill with water as I cautiously pedal along wet roads while getting splashed by passing cars. This is not an ideal day so far. Hopefully the rain lets up.

The headwind is not as bad as it was yesterday but still requires some steady drafting. It feels colder today though, and I just can't seem to shake it off. It's worse when we stop because there is a layer of sweat between me and my jacket which chills me to the core. A steaming cup of hot chocolate is only a temporary fix, but it's the best we can do on the road.

Cornfields and cow pastures line the route as we spin along at a moderate pace. There are only a few big hills today. When it's cold like this I almost prefer the uphill stretches because they keep me warm. Anything to keep the blood flowing is a blessing in disguise.

We stop for a few nice meals along the way to get a taste of real Quebec culture. The food is excellent, and it tastes especially good after having come so far to get it.

It turns out to be quite an effort to get into camp this evening. The bike path leading to it seems endless with several steep hills to keep me guessing. By the time we get to camp there is already a fire going with people huddled around it wearing heavy coats and mittens. It's going to be a chilly evening. Better wear a hat to sleep.
