Day 7 - July 4 - Rest Day in Sicamous

It's a wonderful feeling to wake up leisurely at 7:30 without hearing people taking down tents, making breakfast or coming in and out of the truck. My day is very simple and very enjoyable. It does not involve cycling or anything remotely related to cycling.

Some of us walk over to the restaurant beside the campsite in search of a hot breakfast. We find it in the form of steak, eggs and waffles. Then I walk into town with Karen and Deb to send some email at the Community Internet Access Centre. Sicamous is a very touristy town with more house boats than I have ever seen. Even though it's a long walk to and from town in 37 degree heat, I refuse to get on my bike. My legs are appreciating this rest day; it helps them get stronger.

I do some laundry this afternoon for the first time since I left home. As it turns out, forgetting to add soap isn't as big a deal as I thought. I'll try to remember next time.

Before I know it, it's time for another meal. I return to the same restaurant with Michelle, John, Murray, Jen and Jonathan to study the menu once more. The rest of my evening involves reorganizing my baskets in the truck, writing this journal and filling my bike bag with all the necessities: sandwiches, bananas, water, a toolkit and sunscreen.

I'm getting up early tomorrow to escape the heat. I like to leave before 7.
